In an old house in Paris, covered with vines.....


If you think Madeline is the quintessential French story for little girls, think again. She is nowhere to be found in Paris. Ludwig Bemelmans surely spent time here but he was a native of Austria and spent most of his adult life in the U.S. You can buy the books at Amazon.fr but at least one customer review notes that the rhymes have no charm in French.

As Miss Clavel said, "that's all there is, there isn't any more."
